🔤 Pretérito indefinido: cambios vocálicos en verbos -IR
📌 Regla general
Los verbos de la 3.ª conjugación (-IR) con cambio vocálico en presente (pedir → pido, dormir → duermo) cambian la vocal de la raíz solo en las terceras personas: él / ella / usted y ellos / ellas / ustedes. (Stem change only in 3rd person / Смена гласной только в 3-м лице.)
- E → I: pedir → pidió, pidieron
- O → U: dormir → durmió, durmieron
- Yo, tú, nosotros/as y vosotros/as mantienen la vocal original: pedí, pediste, pedimos, pedisteis.
Cómo recordarlo
Los verbos -AR y -ER con cambio en presente (pensar, volver) no cambian en pretérito (pensó, volvió). El cambio solo ocurre en -IR.

Reír y sonreír
Son parecidos pero con ortografía propia: reí, reíste, rio, reímos, rieron (en la ortografía actual rio se escribe sin tilde) y sonreí, sonreíste, sonrió, sonreímos, sonrieron. La vocal e no cambia a i; se pierde una i de la terminación.
